I am not sure how much having a tech degree makes in getting a pilot slot. Plenty of pilots do not have engineering degrees anyways. Any engineering is much much harder than a lot of degrees too, you could struggle to get a 2.5 in Aero Engineering, but easily easily get a 3.3 in something like history, and GPA is weighted.

However, what you should really consider is joining an Air National Guard unit and applying to be a pilot, even enlisting first then applying. ANG pilots seem to enjoy their job a lot more then regular active duty.
