i'm curious as to what the the typical medical exam is checking and in particular if they drug test. i'm thinking of getting my private pilot license and i like to smoke grass now and then. thanks :)

Wed, September 26, 2007 - 11:20 AMThere is no drug test as part of an aviation medical certificate. Just a pee test that can see if you may be diabetic.

it will only 'come out' if it's tested. that means no smoke for a month ( which is easy) but i do need to plan it so to speak

Mon, October 8, 2007 - 6:59 PMThen plan for it. When it doesn't happen you'll be that far ahead, if they do, then you're not screwed. Just remember that you are talking about a sanction against your cert that could follow you forever (esp with the DHS regs) so id it worth taking the chance?
We had a HUGE discussion last year on the AOPA forums about just that. They won't test... unless they do.
